Project Description

The History Shop was a social experiment curated by TIME/IMAGE and charity New Deal of the Mind. Taking up residence in a former Subway shop on Exmouth Market, London, we aimed to bring history to the unsuspecting public and receive a little in return.

With materials from the London Metropolitan Archive and the British Council Film Collection, the ground floor was turned into a  pop-up exhibition of London and local history whilst the basement became our secluded screening room, showing not just archive film but contemporary interpretations too.

We also invited passers-by to share their memories with us on postcards and on film in a vox pop style, as well as offering them the chance to try their hand at remixing archive footage.
