Our Services

TIME/IMAGE is proud to offer a diverse range of services, a one-stop shop; whether you’re trying to bridge the gap between physical and digital collections, consolidate your metadata, or simply improve an archive’s context, we can help.

Any combination of our services can be provided to meet your requirements, be your collection big or small, historical or contemporary. Whatever you’ve got, we’re always excited to meet curators and explore new materials.

If you would like any further information on our services, or would like to explore how we might be able to work together, please get in touch.

[fusion_toggle title=”Advice” open=”no”]TIME/IMAGE wouldn’t be here today were it not for the helpful advice we’ve received over the years. As such, we like to pass on our knowledge and help others where we can. As such, we rarely charge for casual advice; if you’ve got a question you think we can help with don’t hesitate to contact us.

If you need more in-depth advice on a topic or collection, we can provide a full evaluation (with report or presentation) or simply meet for a more extensive discussion.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Cataloguing” open=”no”]Often accompanying research or digitisation services, TIME/IMAGE offers a flexible cataloguing service to facilitate the documentation, consolidation, and modernisation of collections.

Some of the archives we have worked with came to us in boxes, while others were scattered and barely documented.

Click here to explore some of our catalogued collections or get in touch to discuss your cataloguing requirements. [/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Content” open=”no”]‘Content’ may sound like another meaningless buzzword these days, but if your collection is the heart of your resource, content can builds a whole body around it.

Content is all the material of your collection plus the essays, trivia, films, games, blog entries, art, education packs, and stories it spawns. Content, particularly paired with curation, provides context, points of access, and methods of engagement.

TIME/IMAGE can provide a wide variety of content, both in terms of medium and tone, such as:

  • Copywriting and editing for web, social media, events, exhibitions, and internal use.
  • Audio-visual content for projects, events, exhibitions, etc.
  • Accessible resources: transcripts, audio-guides, annotations, podcasts, etc.

For examples of our previous work, please visit our portfolio.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Creative Development” open=”no”]What should you do with that collection? Do you put it online? Hold some kind of event to share it with the public? Hire an artist to work with it? Make a video game?

Coming up with creative approaches to your resources can be challenging, but TIME/IMAGE is here to help. We’re good at finding routes into collection, identifying themes and narratives, and using the medium of the collection to its advantage.

We’ll help you generate all sorts of ideas to expand the scope of your collection, provoking opportunities for access and engagement.

Once you have a plan, we can also partially or fully manage your project for you.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Publicity” open=”no”]You may be wondering if you need to publicise your collection or resource. Well, you likely do, but perhaps not in the way you’re thinking. It’d be a shame, after all, if nobody knew about your stuff!

We can help you plan and execute a traditional publicity plan—writing press materials, contacting the media, representing the collection (on radio, for example)—but we can also help you develop a more focussed, sustainable approach to publicity; building web presence and social media profiles, planning events, and generally raising awareness.

Whatever your approach, we pride ourselves on our ability to identify the features that define collections, the stories that capture audiences, and the people who’ll want to hear them.

One example of our work is the British Council Film Collection—a film archive that hit blogs and the BBC alike. Find out more about that publicity work here.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Print” open=”no”]TIME/IMAGE is able to meet both your physical and digital ‘print’ requirements. Often a part of our content services, we work with trusted suppliers to provide a variety of materials such as:

  • Exhibition/Informational displays: maps, images, text, etc.
  • Booklets (physical and/or digital)
  • Education packs
  • Promotional materials: leaflets, postcards, posters, etc.
  • Fascimilies

This list is by no means comprehensive, so let us know what you need and we’ll let you know if we can help.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Web Design” open=”no”]A well-designed website can do wonders for collection accessibility and rejuvenate a stagnant resource.

TIME/IMAGE offers quick, straight-forward web design with a focus on user experience (UX). We favour WordPress-based builds and open-source tools (such as Omeka, a CMS for digital collections) to keep costs down and keep things simple in these budget-conscious days.

We also strive to create websites that our clients can easily understand and maintain if so desired, offering training to that end.

As can be seen from our portfolio, we are happy to provide web design services outside of the cultural sector—many of our web design clients are start-ups and small businesses.

Websites are highly tailored to their purpose, so please get in touch to discuss your requirements; we are happy to provide free advice in this area.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Live Event Coverage” open=”no”]Whether it’s a conference, workshop or something else entirely, it’s always useful to document events. Not only creating a lasting record of what was said, the live coverage boosts your reach across social media and engages those that couldn’t attend. That’s why we always try to Storify the events we attend, and why event organisers might consider having an official blogger.

If you’re looking for such an individual, TIME/IMAGE is available to blog and Tweet about events, either live or afterwards, as ourselves or on your own accounts.

We can also broadcast events live via Periscope and livestream to YouTube for a more lasting solution. Alternatively, if you’d prefer a branded or edited record of your event, we can film it, edit it, and help you put it online later.[/fusion_toggle]

[fusion_toggle title=”Research” open=”no”]Research is at the core of our services, whether we’re uncovering the history of a collection, investigating the current state of an archive, or exploring trends in the sector.

Research requirements vary from project to project, but services might include:

  • Data collection; authorship, copyright, content, trivia, etc.
  • Location of missing materials.
  • Interviews with relevant individuals or parties.
  • Compilation of metadata for searchable archives.
  • Liaison with other archives, such as the BFI, The National Archives, etc.
  • Creation or completion of collection catalogue – physical and/or digital.
  • Creation of online databases, open to collaboration and contribution.

Many of our projects have involved a research element—view some of them here.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Curation” open=”no”]Curation provide doorways into collections, helping audiences to negotiate potentially labyrinthine archives and appreciate the stories within them.

TIME/IMAGE is pleased to offer curatorial services in both digital and more tangible spheres. We’ve curated online collections, material exhibitions, and pop-up spaces for a variety of clients.

Our Lead Consultant, Sarah Cole, recently enjoyed an AHRC Knowledge Exchange Fellowship around the topic of audience/user curation, so we are particularly well placed to work with those seeking a more innovative approach.

[fusion_toggle title=”Project Management” open=”no”]Projects—whatever their initial remit—can be long, complicated, and time-consuming to manage. They can also be something your role doesn’t cover or doesn’t allow you enough time to deal with effectively.

At TIME/IMAGE we appreciate that many people would rather have someone else look after their projects—someone reliable who can dedicate their full attention to the work, can liaise between suppliers, can handle the nitty-gritty of the everyday tasks and emails.

As such, we’re pleased to offer project management services for all kinds of cultural and heritage projects: digitisation, exhibitions, events, press, and more besides, as well as multi-faceted plans.

You can find some of the projects we’ve managed on our portfolio page, but please get in touch if you would like to discuss your requirements.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Events” open=”no”]Exhibitions. Pop-up ‘shops’. Screenings. Community gatherings. Festivals.

Events are a great way to raise awareness of a collection whilst connecting with the public and communities. TIME/IMAGE has been involved in variety of events—organising, curating, providing content, presenting, and promoting.

Explore some of our previous events by visiting the links above, browsing our work, or checking our blog.

[fusion_toggle title=”Film Services” open=”no”]TIME/IMAGE was born from a film archive and film services remain at our core. We frequently work on large digitisation and cataloguing projects as well as providing services such as:

If you’d like more information on our previous film work please visit the links above or get in touch.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Digitisation” open=”no”]There are a great many merits to digitising your collections—whatever media they may traditionally inhabit—and increasingly few barriers to digitisation with advances in technology reducing cost and complexity of processes.

We really enjoy helping to digitise collections and can process photos, slides, negatives, and paper-based materials either in-house or on-site as clients prefer.

Unfortunately we don’t have the infrastructure to digitise film stock ourselves, but we have extensive experience of managing the digitisation of film collections, strong relationships with the BFI and approved digitisers, and a suite of complementary film services.

Explore our work to learn more about our digitisation projects.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Social Media” open=”no”]Social media can be a powerful tool but it can also be bewildering and time-consuming. Going hand-in-hand with our web design services, TIME/IMAGE can help you to establish social media accounts, develop content strategy, and manage accounts. We can also assist with mailing lists and newsletters.

If you’re not sure whether you need social media, or if you already have something in mind, do get in touch and we’d be delighted to discuss it with you.[/fusion_toggle]
[fusion_toggle title=”Training” open=”no”]Learning new skills is always useful—facilitating personal development and opening up new opportunities. We like to pass on knowledge and can offer training for groups or individuals in:

  • Basic video editing (i.e. Final Cut Pro)
  • Collaborative tools
  • Newsletters (i.e. Mailchimp)
  • Omeka
  • Publishing (i.e. Adobe InDesign)
  • Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.)
  • WordPress
  • Websites we have built for you[/fusion_toggle]
